"Weight is not a number it's a story" Dr. Sylvia G-Bollie
My weight journey began in 2015 because I was tired. I was an emotional eater and my unhealthy eating habits had finally caught up with me. Thirty pounds overweight, I was tired of teaching patients what I was not living. I was tired of not feeling healthy. Most importantly I was ready to reform my unhealthy relationship with food. It was a slow journey filled with many lessons but 2 years, a half marathon, full marathon and over 30lbs later I finally am living the life I practice and teach clinically.
I have learned that weight is not just a number it is a story and each person has their own. Given the uniqueness of each person’s life story, a weight loss plan has to be personalized and flexible. My path to health and wellness can be summarized as:
- Faith has always been a key part of my life. Through my fitness journey I have learned the true meaning of Matthew 19:26. My relationship with Christ gives me the strength to do “all things” (Philippians 4:13).
- Family & Friends have been a continual source of encouragement. A support team is essential for motivation and help. As a busy working mom I couldn’t fit in fitness without the cooperation of my husband and son. Inspiration from my family & friends has kept me motivated.
- Fitness is essential for total well-being. I engage in some form of exercise daily. Some days are hard to fit in a workout but I try to do at least 5 minutes a day. I make sure I don’t go greater than 48hrs without a workout. Running outdoors is my favorite activity.
- Food is fuel for life so choose high grade octane not crude oil is my slogan. That being said I still don’t believe in self deprivation. I finally conquered my unhealthy relationship with food when I stopped depriving myself. After all, “the best diet is the one you can stick to”. I follow general healthy eating principles: lots of vegetables and fruits daily, clean, wholesome foods, limited carbohydrates (150-200g/ day) and minimal refined sugar
